French Onion Crostini
You have no idea how excited I am to finally share these with you on my new site! I made these as a little appetizer for Valentine’s Day and they were SO amazing. You can whip these up in as little as 20 minutes and they are extremely easy to make.
All you need is 1 large baguette, 1 (6oz) block of gruyere cheese, 2 sweet onions, olive oil, fresh thyme, sea salt, and pepper.
The key it to slice the cheese and onions as thinly as possible.
Slicing the onions thinly allows them to caramelize and give off that desired savory sweetness.
Now, build your crostini! Brush a light layer of olive oil on each slice and toast the first side in the oven.
Flip the crostini, add cheese, and toast once more.
Add the caramelized onion topping and sprinkle with fresh thyme, sea salt, and pepper.
Serve and enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 large baguette
1 (6oz) block gruyere cheese
2 yellow sweet onions
3 tablespoons olive oil
Fresh thyme, chopped
Sea salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375°. With a serrated bread knife, slice the baguette at an angle into ¼” pieces.
Lightly brush both sides of the bread slices using 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Slice the gruyere cheese as thinly as possible.
Arrange the baguette slices onto a baking sheet and toast at 375° in the oven for about 6 minutes, flip, add 1 slice of gruyere cheese to each crostini, and toast again for another 6 minutes.
Thinly slice the onion into ¼” pieces. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add the onions. Stir the onions to coat them in the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Stir occasionally and allow the onions to caramelize.
Top each crostini with about 1 tablespoon of the caramelized onion. Sprinkle fresh thyme, sea salt, and pepper over the crostini.
